This article investigates participatory action research workshops from the perspective of feminist new materialism by asking, how we came to know ageing in the smart city of Oulu in northern Finland through collaborative workshops which aimed to include seniors into public service design. The most meaningful socio-material components in this knowledge-making are argued to be the shifts in social power relations, particular spatial and material practices, and the participant assemblage. These components intra-act transferring our understanding on ageing: ageing becomes a creative state where the seniors are included in the problem-solving instead of being citizens to be looked after, and thus being merely a socioeconomic problem. The power dynamics are essential in participatory action research, therefore, the accountability of all agents should be carefully analysed to understand the impacts of epistemology both in design and social change.

Este artículo es resultado del trabajo de campo realizado gracias al convenio de cooperación suscrito en el 2014 entre la Institución Universitaria ESUMER y la Agencia de Cooperación Alemana -GIZ1, en el marco del programa “Global Business Exchange”2 . Como producto de este programa, la universidad impartió el seminario de formación sobre cooperación y relaciones comerciales con Alemania dirigido a empresarios de pymes colombianas seleccionadas mediante convocatoria. En el artículo se presenta una reflexión sobre el método de aprendizaje utilizado en el seminario y los resultados obtenidos.

Important differences have recently become apparent in the forms of governance being implemented in different metropolitan regions, even among those within the same country. A number of theoretical debates attempt to explain the nature of these differences, emphasizing the importance of structural factors as well as embedded economic and social characteristics. This article aims to show that existing theoretical debates are linked by three issues that act as interfaces among them: institutions, flows in the form of material resources and regulatory power, and governance capacity and coalitions. This article explores the emerging forms of governance within the two largest metropolitan regions of Turkey, Izmir and Antalya, taking into consideration these three issues.
