Consumption of Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (CTAB) during Electrodeposition of Lead Dioxide

Abstract: The beneficial effect of the addition of CTAB during electrodeposition of lead dioxide led to the investigations on the necessity to control the concentration of the addition agent for obtaining a smooth and adherent deposit of the same on a stationary graphite anode. To achieve this, it is important to know the consumption pattern of the addition agent. It has been observed that the CTAB is consumed not only for cathodic reaction but also for anodic reaction. Increasing temperature lowers the consumption of C… Show more

“…Sodium citrate, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), etc. have been used as stress relievers in the coating of PbO 2 . Similarly, in the preparation of antimony trioxide a few additives such as sodium gluconate, dichromate, and sodium citrate of 2 g/L were studied, and the results are presented in Table .…”

Potassium dichromate prevents the formation of surface hydrides at the cathode, 20 but the purity is very much less and coloration of the product did not commend its use.…”
