Contemporary hormone therapy with LHRH agonists for prostate cancer: avoiding osteoporosis and fracture

Abstract: IntroductionProstate cancer is a large clinical burden across Europe. It is, in fact, the most common cancer in males, accounting for more than 92,300 deaths annually throughout the continent. Prostate cancer is androgen-sensitive; thus an androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is often used for treatment by reducing androgen to castrate levels. Several ADT agents have achieved benefits with effective palliation, but, unfortunately, severe adverse events are frequent. Contemporary ADT (Luteinising Hormone Releasin… Show more

“…Prostate cancer is a prevalent malignancy in developed and developing countries and is a significant global clinical burden, accounting for >92,300 mortalities each year ( 22 ). The lack of sufficient diagnostic and prognostic factors are primary causes for poor clinical outcome in prostate cancer patients.…”

“…Prostate cancer (PCa) is considered a worldwide clinical burden, its prevalence is increasing in both developed and developing countries and it accounts for more than 92,300 mortalities per year . PCa morbidity rate is elevating surprisingly in the developing countries , however, the PCa progression is slower in comparison with other types of cancers making early diagnosis to be an important step for hopeful outcomes .…”

“…49,50 The second and third most frequently used measures were process focused: the use of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT)/adjuvant hormonal therapy for high-risk patients, and documentation of clinical T stage. ADT agents have demonstrated benefits achieved for effective palliation 51 as well as survival, 52 while the assessment and documentation of the clinical T stage is fundamental to treatment selection. 53 The fourth and fifth measures represent outcomes of care and include assessment and documentation of urinary, sexual, and intestinal functions of the patient after treatment; and the patient's satisfaction with the choice of treatment and with his function in regard to continence and sexual potency.…”
