Continuous data acquisition with online analysis for the Wendelstein 7-X magnetic diagnostics

Abstract: The coupling of continuous data acquisition and continuous online analysis keeping up with the acquisition is one of the features the W7-X data acquisition system is designed for. As proof of principle of this concept the magnetic diagnostics have been implemented. The magnetic diagnostics measure time derivatives of the magnetic fluxes and the signals have to be time integrated accordingly. Both measurement and analysis tasks are executed on a single PC based system. The configuration of both hard-and softwar… Show more

“…This challenge to current standard electronic integrators has been adequately addressed over the last few years [19]- [22]. Much attention is required, particularly because spurious electromotive forces (EMFs) due to radiation or thermal effects, as described in more detail below, can make this a very critical issue unless a suitable and very reliable mitigation of these unwanted EMFs can be fully implemented and guaranteed.…”

“…In order to obtain desired magnetic field, magnetic flux, current, and other signals, original signals need to be integrated [6]. For this purpose, we have developed a digital multi-channel data acquisition and integration system [7][8][9] for magnetic diagnostics based on the PXI protocol. The magnetic diagnostics for HL-2M need to monitor a lot of signals in real-time during plasma discharge, which requires the integrator to be accurate and stable, while convenient to control and maintain.…”
