Continuous-flow chemiluminescence determination of some corticosteroids

Abstract: A continuous-flow method for the determination of cortisone, hydrocortisone, prednisolone and methylprednisolone in the range 0.100-1.00 pg ml-1 and of dexamethasone and betamethasone in the range 0.500-5.00 pg ml-1 is described. The procedure is based on the action of each corticosteroid as a sensitiser on the chemiluminescent oxidation of sulphite by cerium(lV). The analysis is automated, requires no sample pre-treatment and samples can be analysed at a rate of 40 per hour with a relative error of <6%. The m… Show more

“…The influences of different acidic media on the CL intensity were studied ( Table 1). The results showed the sulfuric acid was the optimum medium, the same with the CL system involving Ce(IV) or MnO 4 − [26,27,[34][35][36]. Furthermore, the effect of H 2 SO 4 concentration was studied (Fig.…”

“…[51][52][53] The emission has been attributed to the formation of excited sulfur dioxide molecules which radiate during de-excitation. [54] The aim of the present work is to develop a sensitive and accurate flow injection CL method for the determination of enalapril maleate and atenolol in pharmaceutical preparations and biological fluids.…”

“…The sensitising effect of corticosteroids on the chemoluminogenic reaction between sulfite and cerium(IV) was exploited for their flow-injection (FIA) determination in pharmaceutical formulations. 52,53 A luminol chemiluminescence determination for the same purpose is also described. 54…”
