Contrast training in football and its effect on the performance of students in this field of education

Abstract: Confusion in the literature also affects studies on football. Complex and contrast training protocols in football that are used to define the purpose of this study, to examine the effect on player performance, on methods to deal with developments and discussions with existing methods to evaluate the positive and negative aspects to provide a critical perspective on sensible recommendations.

“…In the 1960s, Verkhoshansky made a training design using a combination of plyometric and traditional strength exercises, and he claimed that this design positively affected athletes' performance (68). In the following years, researchers conducted studies with similar exercise combinations and started to perform exercises at different loading intervals in the same training season (40). This combined strength training has taken various names according to the order of the exercise pairs during the training and the differences in the number of repetitions and sets (such as complex training, contrast training, and French contrast method).…”

“…In basketball, jumping ability can be improved through training methods, including the stretch-shortening cycle and traditional strength training (18,59). However, the requirement for a specific time interval for the development of different levels of strength, busy competition periods, and the limited time allocated for strength training during weekly microcycles pose obstacles to the development of qualified strength (40,58,64). Trainers and researchers resort to combined strength training methods, which include a combination of different strength training methods, to eliminate these limitations; in this way, both maximal strength development and performance level can increase in many movement patterns involving explosiveness, such as jumping (38,62).…”
