Rev.

“…separated R. monticola from R. lepidus by the smaller size of the body, narrower horseshoe, shorter metacarpal of third, fourth and fifth fingers and narrower nasal swellings. Aellen (1959) could not find any major difference between these two species and considered R. monticola as a subspecies of R. lepidus. However, specimens of the latter present in the Zoological Survey of India have longer metacarpals on the third, fourth and fifth fingers than does R. monticola as given by .…”

“…However, Aellen (1959) separated N. javanica from all other Nycteris species, because the latter have either bi-or tricuspid teeth, whereas only the former shows a combination of both conditions. Aellen (1959) arranged N. tragata together with N. arge, N. nana and N. major in a new group, which he named the arge group.…”

“…While 49 out of this 52 specimens refered to Miniopterus schreibersi pulcher which Harrison (1956) described from Ser, Amadia, Kurdistan Iraq, one specimen was comparable with the Miniopterus schreibersi pallidus which Thomas (1907) has introduced from Southern shore of Caspian sea, and two specimens have intermediate colour. Aellen (1959) believes that pulcher and pallidus are one subspecies. Lewis and Harrison (1962) stated « It seems posible that a colour cline is present in the region, of which pulcher is the extreme.…”
