Control of quasi-phase-matching of high-harmonics in a spatially structured plasma

Abstract: High-harmonic generation is widely used for providing extreme ultraviolet radiation in attosecond science. Such experiments include photoelectron spectroscopy, diffractive imaging, or the investigation of spin dynamics. Many applications are restricted by a low photon flux which originates from the low efficiency of the generation process. In this article an effective method based on the quasi-phase-matched generation of high harmonics in spatially structured, laser ablated plasma is demonstrated. Through a pr… Show more

“…Application of this concept in the case of the shorter-wavelength region requires conditions where the absorption of generating harmonic waves becomes insignificant with regard to the enhancement of this radiation in the conditions where the transfer of energy from driving to harmonic waves occurs at similar phase velocities. Since then, QPM has been demonstrated in gaseous [11,12,13,14] and plasma [15,16] media. One of the approaches here is the division of an extended medium into groups of smaller media separated by a vacuum.…”

“…The demonstration of the high flux of harmonics from different plasmas opens doors for further developments in the nonlinear spectroscopy of ablated materials. With the demonstration of highest average flux of harmonics reported so far, one can define the plasma as a very effective medium for coherent XUV sources formation [49][50][51].…”
