Control Pest of Leaf Caterpillars (Plutella xylostella) in Delima Rose Apples Using Soursop Leaf Extract (Annona muricata)

Abstract: The increasing of pesticide use is in line with the increasing number of pest populations. However, the use of pesticides causes various negative impacts on the environment (soil, water, and air) such as pesticide-resistant pests, perishing of useful insects which are non-target pesticides, and the use of pesticide which can even lead to poisoning and death in humans. One of the environmentally-safe techniques to control pests is chemical, by the use soursop leaf extract. This study aims to determine the most … Show more

“…A number of studies have been performed to determine the insecticidal potential of botanical oils and extracts of certain species—Myrtaceae [ 21 ], Rubiaceae [ 22 ], Anonnaceae [ 23 , 24 ], Meliaceae, Anacardiaceae [ 24 , 25 ], Apocynaceae [ 26 , 27 ], Sapindaceae and Fabaceae [ 28 ]—and the oil of Rutaceae [ 29 ] on the development and/or oviposition of P. xylostella and, consequently, the occurrence of antibiosis and antixenosis.…”

“…One of the alternative to prevent pest safely for human and environment is by doing a biological control technique which is known as biopesticides that utilizes natural substances and available in nature. In Indonesia, biopesticides is still less popular and not many farmers use it as pesticides [12]. The use of papaya and kipahit plants as pest control is not much done by farmers.…”

“…The beetle destroy the coconut shoot, attacks on growing point of stem while the larvae live in the soil or dead coconut trunk (Moslim et al, 2011). Control larvae with pesticides causes various negative impacts on the environment such as soil, water, and air (Amalia & Yusa, 2018). One of the biological agent to control the larvae of O.rhinoceros is Metarhizium anisopliae (Latifian & Rad, 2012).…”
