Controllable synthesis and characterization of Mg2SiO4 nanostructures via a simple hydrothermal route using carboxylic acid as capping agent and their photocatalytic performance for photodegradation of azo dyes

Abstract: Mg2SiO4 nanostructures have been synthesized via a facile hydrothermal approach. The photocatalytic behavior of Mg2SiO4 nanostructures prepared by different carboxylic acids have been investigated to degrade azo dyes under UV and visible light.

“…Hydrothermal synthesis of monocarboxylic acid-modified Fe 3 O 4 NPs was performed in the pressure-resistant reactors (SUS316) with a volume of 20 mL, where the reactor material was selected based on literature. ,, The reactor was loaded with 10 mL of Fe(OH) 2 colloidal suspension before adding 6.0 × 10 –3 mol monocarboxylic acid to the reactor for the surface modification. It was noted that the addition of decanoic acid, a representative monocarboxylic acid, resulted in a simple phase separation while reducing the pH of the suspension from 6.6 to 5.7, as shown in Figure S1.…”

“…Solvothermal synthesis is another promising method for preparing nanostructured magnesium-based alloys with controlled morphology and size [ 101 ]. This method involves the reaction of magnesium precursors with other metal salts or organic compounds in a sealed autoclave at elevated temperatures and pressures.…”
