Controller optimization for a solar tracking system using differential evolution

Abstract: This paper details the design and implementation of two analog controllers for the solar tracker located in the thermal power plant laboratory at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. In this study we used differential evolution for the optimization of the controllers. In addition to the design of the controllers, it is possible with this approach to observe the characteristics of this bio-inspired algorithm. As a result, we first present the optimization process and subsequently the dynamic response of the co… Show more

“…In general, many applications like robotics, servomechanisms, control, and automation normally use motors with Direct Current (DC). For instance, an application for implementing a solar tracker with a DC motor can be found in [1] and [2]. On the other hand, the dynamic back-propagation (DBP) algorithm is used for training neural networks by incorporating the same characteristics as those of dynamic systems [3,4].…”

“…Este aprovechamiento de la energía solar se conoce como energía solar térmica. Los colectores solares, los tanques de almacenamiento y los fluidos de transferencia de calor son los tres componentes principales del colector solar para el calentamiento de agua o el calentador solar de agua [1,2,3,4].…”
