Controls on Reservoir Heterogeneity of a Shallow-Marine Reservoir in Sawan Gas Field, SE Pakistan: Implications for Reservoir Quality Prediction Using Acoustic Impedance Inversion

Abstract: The precise characterization of reservoir parameters is vital for future development and prospect evaluation of oil and gas fields. C-sand and B-sand intervals of the Lower Goru Formation (LGF) within the Lower Indus Basin (LIB) are proven reservoirs. Conventional seismic amplitude interpretation fails to delineate the heterogeneity of the sand-shale facies distribution due to limited seismic resolution in the Sawan gas field (SGF). The high heterogeneity and low resolution make it challenging to characterize … Show more

“…The proportion of sand and clay bands, on the other hand, is highly consistent over huge areas. In this aquifer, the depth of water tables ranges from 1.39 m to 12.76 m, having an average depth of 3.93 m [38]. The leading causes of salinity in the region include the under-watering of crops, low harvesting strength, and outflow from streams and adjacent canals.…”

“…In China, unconventional tight gas provides the most contribution of the unconventional resources and accounts for 39.2% reserves and 24.6% annual production of the total natural gas [3]. Therefore, many geoscientists are working on the reservoir quality prediction of sandstone reservoirs [4][5][6][7]. The Ordos basin (OB) is one of the most productive basins with the highest annual gas output in China [8,9].…”

“…Synthetic seismogram was calibrated via seismic-to-well tie (Ashraf et al, 2016;Anees et al, 2017), which is a process of acquiring the association amid seismic reflections and geological features. The attained synthetic traces were matched with the corresponding seismic traces to build the connection among time and depth (Ashraf et al, 2020b). Two reflectors were marked named as T9e (P 2 x 2 ) and T9f (P 2 x 3 ), which denote the second member and third member of the LSF (Figure 2).…”
