Convention on biological diversity : Sixth national report of the Kingdom of the Netherlands

Abstract: The Netherlands is one of the most densely populated countries in the world. Most of the country's land area is highly productive agricultural land. There is little or no area of natural ecosystem that could be called pristine, although high biodiversity values are certainly found. The Kingdom of the Netherlands also comprises six Caribbean islands with, among other things, tropical rainforests, mangrove forests and coral reefs. The main cause of the long-term decline biodiversity has been the intensification … Show more

“…The Dutch government aims to greatly reduce NH 3 emission from agriculture, because the deposition of atmospheric N into nature frequently exceeds the maximum (critical) loads for certain habitat types [66]. Thus, biodiversity targets have not yet been achieved [67]. Changes to the diet of cows is one of the measures that can be taken to reduce NH 3 emission.…”

“…Measures to increase agricultural productivity, such as the use of fertilizers and the drainage of wet areas, along with pollution and overfishing, have led to a significant decline in biodiversity. This has resulted in nearly 40% of the native species being threatened to a greater or lesser extent (Sanders et al, 2019).…”

“…Deze functies verlopen efficiënter als er meer schimmels zijn. Bovendien voorspellen conclusies ten aanzien van de slechte toestand van de bovengrondse biodiversiteit (Kleijn et al 2018;Sanders et al 2019), weinig goeds voor het onderaardse.…”
