Corporoplasty with small soft axial prostheses (VIRILIS I®) and bovine pericardial graft (HYDRIX®) in Peyronie's disease

Abstract: The surgical techniques used by Austoni and Egydio in the treatment of Peyronie's disease are based on geometric principles. The aim of this paper is to report our multicentric experience and technical changes to Austoni's original technique, focusing on several tips and tricks to make this technique easy to perform, even by less experienced practitioners. We performed operations in three different Italian institutions. We implanted a small soft Virilis I® axial prostheses (Ø 7 Fr.), using a bovine pericardium… Show more

“…In the patients with a partial ED or age >65 years with risk factors (diabetes, hypertension, and so forth), we performed VIRILIS prostheses implant and pericardial graft (Giant Medical, Modena, Italy). 9 In the patients without erection, we implanted hydraulic prostheses.…”

“…The length was most commonly measured on the dorsal surface from the penile base (pubo‐penile junction) to the tip of the glans (meatus), whereas girth was most commonly measured in the flaccid state at one or more levels along the penis shaft. More specifically, these two measuring methods were explicitly described in 48 [13–22,25–36,38–53,60–69] and 39 papers [13–25,27,31–42,44,48,54,60–69], respectively.…”

“…Sliding technique, where tunical excision and grafting are performed on dorsal-ventral penis, has been described in patients whose corpus cavernosum is short and has been modified to become suitable for penile length prosthesis implantation (11). The studies on this issue in the literature are on cases that are accompanied by Peyronie's disease (11,12,13,14,15). Peyronie's disease did not accompany in our cases, however, only one of the cylinders of the prosthesis could be implanted due to the fact that the penile length of our cases was short and the diameter of the corpus cavernosum was totally insufficient.…”
