“…The occurrence of early postoperative arrthythmias after repair of congenital heart disease was significantly associated with procedure-related risk factors 13 , the presumed mechanism is trauma to the atrioventricular node or the bundle of his before its bifurcation 14,15 . Recent review of primary closure of VSD in infant reported a mortality rate of 2.4% to 24% 6,[9][10][11][12]16,16,17 . The mortality rate in our study was 3.8% which comparable to the published figures.…”

“…The method of operative intervention at present appears to be less controversial than it was 5 to 10 years ago. Staged treatment with initial pulmonary artery banding as described by Muller and Dammann [1] and later closure debanding and closure of the ventricular septal defect are not as frequently practiced now as they were previously because of the success that has been reported to have been achieved by 1-stage closure of the ventricular septal defect [2,[13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21]. The study by Mahle and associates [22] of the 2-stage approach is perhaps the most revealing with regard to the combined mortality of the precedures as well as the included interval mortality while waiting for staged repair.…”
