Introduction : The aim of this study was to determine serum lactate dehydrogenase activity and its correlation with carbohydrate intake in advanced lung cancer patients at Dharmais National Cancer Hospital Jakarta. Cancer Cells are characterized by increase anaerobic glycolysis termed the Warburg effect with lactate as an end product, catalyzed by LDH enzyme. Activities of lactate in cancer influences on tumor growth initiation, survival, proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis. Serum LDH activity can be used as a diagnostic, prognostic, and predictive marker for tumor sensitivity and resistancy to therapy.Methods :56 subjects of advanced lung cancer from Dharmais National Cancer Hospital Jakarta were included in this cross sectional study. Subjects were recruited by consecutive sampling. Food intake of total carbohydrate was obtained by utilizing 24 hours food recall method. The activity of serum LDH (IU/L) was measured by using enzymatic spectrophotometry method on automated analyzer.Results :The mean of age subjects was 56,98 ± 10,36 years old and 55,4% were male. Carbohydrate intake based on 24 hours food recall was 57,64 ± 10,85%. The median of LDH activity was 541,5 (164–6539) IU/L, 60,7% was increase.Conclusion :This study showed medium negative significant correlation (p = 0,017, r = - 0,317) between total carbohydrate intake per day in grams with LDH serum activity. If carbohydrate source is reduced, the LDH enzyme will increase to keep the glycolysis process going. The results of this study indicate that an adequate carbohydrate needed in patients with cancer.

Berdasarkan data GLOBOCAN (2020), kanker paru merupakan penyakit keganasan yang paling mematikan di dunia dengan insiden terbanyak terjadi di Asia Tenggara. Dua per tiga kematian akibat kanker paru ini diketahui berkaitan dengan aktivitas merokok. Di Indonesia, kanker paru menduduki tempat tertinggi untuk insiden maupun mortalitas kanker pada laki-laki. Penelitian-penelitian epidemiologi sebelumnya menunjukkan pola kejadian yang khas pada penderita kanker paru yaitu didominasi oleh laki-laki yang umumnya memiliki riwayat merokok dengan gambaran histopatologi adenocarcinoma. Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gambaran kejadian kanker paru primer di Indonesia dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Literature Review melalui pencarian database menggunakan Google Schoolar dan Medscape. Kata kunci yang digunakan adalah kanker paru Indonesia, epidemiologi kanker paru Indonesia, kejadian kanker paru Indonesia, dan data pasien kanker paru Indonesia. Di dapatkan 30 jurnal yang memuat topik tersebut, namun hanya 21 jurnal yang sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi yang telah ditetapkan. Hasil analisis tinjauan pustaka ini menunjukkan kejadian kanker paru pada pasien di berbagai rumah sakit di Indonesia pada tahun 2014-2019 memiliki gambaran pola kejadian kanker paru primer yang sesuai dengan teori maupun berbagai hasil penelitian epidemiologi kanker paru sebelumnya dengan sedikit perbedaan pada gambaran demografi usia yang dapat disebabkan oleh karena bervariasinya faktor risiko kanker paru pada berbagai daerah di Indonesia.

Context: Systemic inflammation in patients with lung cancer can be seen by the increase of neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) where these examinations are common in hospitals. Systemic inflammation can cause anorexia resulting in decreased nutrition intake of patients with lung cancer and affecting their nutritional status. One of the diagnostics of nutritional status for patients with lung cancer is using the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) criteria that consist of decreased nutritional intake, weight loss, decreased muscle mass and subcutaneous fat mass, general or local fluid accumulation, and functional capacity. Malnutrition can be diagnosed if there are two of the six criteria. Aims: The study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional status and NLR in patients with lung cancer at Persahabatan Hospital in East Jakarta, Indonesia. Settings and Design: This cross-sectional study included 52 patients with lung cancer in oncology outpatient clinic of Persahabatan Hospital. Methods and Material: Data of characteristics subject were taken from interviews, physical examinations, laboratory analysis, and patients medical records in the oncology outpatient clinic of Persahabatan Hospital. Statistical analysis used chi-square or Fisher exact test to assess relationship between nutritional status and NLR (P < 0.05). Results: Based on nutrient intake, more than 50% of the subjects had low energy and protein intake. Based on patient generated subjective global assessment, 38.5% of subjects were at risk of malnutrition or moderate malnutrition, while 67.3% of them were malnutrition based on ASPEN. There was no statistically significant association between nutritional status and NLR (P = 0.35). Conclusions: There was no association between nutritional status and NLR, and so further research with larger samples is needed.
