Correlation of CTCs with disease progression in Indian oral cancer patients.

Abstract: e15541 Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma is leading cancer in the India with Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) as the most frequent subtype. OSCC is classified as a locoregional disease and its increased frequency is attributed to lack of good biomarkers compared to other epithelial cancers. At the time of diagnosis, above 50% of cases present the manifestation of advanced-stage disease, and are predisposed to disease failure in spite of appropriate treatment. Thus, early diagnosis of OSCC c… Show more

“…CTC might be considered a trustworthy measure to predict the disease outcome in oral cancer due to a positive connection of CTC number with numerous pathophysiological characteristics. The presence of CTC at all stages of the disease shows that OSCC is most likely a biologically systematic disease [72].…”

“…1 The ability to conduct CTC isolation, detection, and downstream analysis, in a minimally invasive manner, provides a crucial tool for gathering diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic information on the status of a particular cancer disease. 2,3 Despite the immense prognostic value of CTCs, as demonstrated by several large clinical studies, [4][5][6] the isolation, expansion, and subsequent functional profiling of CTCs is challenging. However, in recent years, crucial advances have been made by several groups to successfully enrich these rare cells for downstream analysis.…”

“…Current clinically relevant CTC isolation methods validated by regulatory authorities (e.g. FDA-approved CellSearch®, 15 DCG(I)-approved OncoDiscover®, 6,[16][17][18][19] etc.) include a CTC enrichment step followed by a subsequent detection stage.…”
