Correlation of electrical and swelling properties with nano free-volume structure of conductive silicone rubber composites

Abstract: The present study focuses on finding a correlation between the positron annihilation parameters of silicone rubber polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) composites loaded with different conductive fillers and their swelling and electrical properties. Four types of conductive fillers have been used in this study, i.e., carbon black (CB), graphite (G), copper, and nickel powders. The investigated swelling parameters for PDMS composites such as the maximum degree of swelling Qm%, the penetration rate, P, and consequently t… Show more

“…The maximum conductivity values, σ dc (max) , are 0.65×10 −5 , 0.83×10 −5 , 0.99×10 −5 , and 2.04×10 −5 (Ω.m) −1 for un-doped CMC/PVA, 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 wt.% Co 3 O 4 doped CMC/PVA films, respectively. The increase of σ dc with increasing the Co 3 O 4 content could be attributed to formation of connected networks [43,44] by the physical contacts of the Co 3 O 4 NPs in the polymer matrix. In low Co 3 O 4 content such networks may not be continuous.…”

“…MC and HPC are basically insulating materials with σ values of 8.15 × 10 −10 and 3.73 × 10 −11 S cm −1 , whereas NaCMC shows a conductivity of 4.43 × 10 −6 S cm −1 . A general conductivity increase is observed upon CoFe 2 O 4 addition due to increased interfacial effects 72.…”

“…Compared to the tensile stress, the compressive stress decreases the distance between the molecular chains; thus, more attraction bonds are generated. Besides, the compression stress reduces the free volume due to the compression of the micro-cavities that may arise under the tensile stress [ 17 , 36 , 37 , 38 ].…”
