Corrosion Inhibition Effect of Carbon Steel in Sea Water by L-Arginine-Zn2+System

Abstract: The inhibition efficiency of L-Arginine-Zn 2+ system in controlling corrosion of carbon steel in sea water has been evaluated by the weight-loss method. The formulation consisting of 250 ppm of L-Arginine and 25 ppm of Zn 2+ has 91% IE. A synergistic effect exists between L-Arginine and Zn 2+ . Polarization study reveals that the L-Arginine-Zn 2+ system functions as an anodic inhibitor and the formulation controls the anodic reaction predominantly. AC impedance spectra reveal that protective film is formed on … Show more

“…The functional groups of pure citric acid and L-arginine were identified, and the respective stretching and bending vibrations were assigned as summarized in Tables S11 [51][52][53][54][55] and S12 51,[56][57][58] . The most important changes in the vibrations of the mixtures from Table 2 in comparison to the pure components are represented in the spectra of Figure 9.…”

“…[ 4 ] Due to corrosion, about 25 % of property are damaged, [ 5 ] , including industrial machines, automobiles, pipeline systems, households, buildings, and railway bridges. [ 6 ] The cost is put at US$2.5 trillion. [ 5 ] Corrosion of steel in concrete results in thousands of dollars in economic losses and damage to concrete.…”
