Abstract:To tackle issues related to metadata and improve discovery of and access to digital resources, National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has developed a series of standards and recommended best practices. The impact of these standards has been discussed in depth. However, no research has been done in the areas of how those standards and best practices can be used for digital resources in Chinese, and strategies for implementing those standards. This paper aims to identify common issues in discovery of and access to Chinese digital resources; suggest feasible solutions; discuss how to leverage NISO standards and recommended practices; and recommend ways to promote the standards and best practices to stakeholders.
