Corrosion protection of magnesium alloy by PEO-coatings containing sodium oleate

Abstract: The kinetics of plasma-electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating growth on AZ31 alloy in an alkaline-phosphate-aluminate electrolyte was studied. The structure, elemental composition and corrosion resistance of obtained PEO coatings were studied as a function of thickness. It was established that formation of the coating layers takes place in the following sequence: anodic, external and internal layers. Their formation occurs due to: 1) dielectric layer formation due to anodic conversion of surface; 2) ignition of … Show more

“…Pitting areas acting as local anode and cathode zones are characterized by a change in local pH values, which enhances the inhibitor solubility and makes it possible to interact with magnesium ions (self-healing effect). Taking into account these features and according to [ 52 , 57 ], the porous inhibitor-loaded PEO coatings can provide a self-healing effect.…”

“…al. [ 30 ], formed a PEO coating on an AZ31 magnesium alloy and impregnated it with various inhibitors and their mixtures, including sodium oleate. The inhibitor was inserted into the PEO coating by immersing the samples in a 16-micromolar aqueous solution of sodium oleate for 10 min.…”

“…Очевидно, что малолетучие органические вещества, например олеиновая кислота (ОлК), могут использоваться как в виде контактных ингибиторов, так и как КИН [13][14]. При этом структура и свойства защитных слоев одного и того же ингибитора, полученных парофазным и контактным способами, ранее не сравнивались.…”
