Cosmeceuticals: peptides, proteins, and growth factors

Abstract: Recent research advances in the molecular and biochemical processes involved in wound healing and skin aging have led to the development of innovative cosmeceuticals that rely on peptides, proteins, and growth factors to enhance skin health. Although the long-term benefits of these products have not been fully tested and evaluated, evidence of the benefits derived from their use is steadily growing. This study describes the peptides, proteins, and growth factors that are most frequently used in cosmeceuticals … Show more

“…As the name implies, PRP is an autologous blood‐derived product with a moderated platelet concentration and few leukocyte, avoiding the proinflammatory effects of the proteases and acid hydrolases contained in the white blood cells . And the growth factors in PRP can slow down skin aging with the mechanisms of chemoattractant for fibroblasts and macrophages, mitogen for fibroblasts, and synthesis of extracellular matrix components . The application and efficacy of PRP on musculoskeletal and maxillofacial injury repair, orthopedic surgery, and bone graft are experimented more than once; now, an increasing number of dermatological indications are proved to be feasible and effective.…”

“…The acetyl hexapeptide‐3 mimics the N‐terminal end of SNAP‐25 protein. It competes with the natural protein for a position in the SNARE complex, which is essential for muscle contraction . Due to its high toxicity, botulin toxin is under strict medical control.…”
