Cost Estimation Methods of Machine Elements at the Design Stage in Unit and Small Lot Production Conditions

Abstract: On the stage of product design there is a problem concerning production cost estimation in the moment when elements are not yet definitely designed. Depending on the amount of the available information, more or less precise cost estimation methods are applied, i.e.: variant methods, generation methods, hybrid methods. The proposed method of cost estimation is based on a formalized description of information related to construction, manufacturing and organizational characteristics concerning the designed elemen… Show more

“…In the example presented, the developed structure (Figure 1) is non-technological from the point of view of the possibility of implementation into production in conditions of high-volume production. In the applied assessment method, the project efficiency index was obtained at the level of W ep = 22% (authors of publications [23][24] give a minimum value of 60%) and W man = 2.92 and W mon = 12.36 (where both indicators should be less than 2.5).…”

“…The severity of the effects is the second feature of the matrix and from its perspective, problems can be divided into five main categories: technical, planning, cost, safety and environment, and software [2]. The technical category concerns problems related to production technology, planning is related to tasks not completed on time, cost problems define problems higher than planned costs, or deficiencies in the budget, safety and the environment group problems directly affecting health and life, and indirectly also costs and delays, software are all the problems that affect the process, but are outside the production system and often beyond the company's control [6], [7], [8]. In addition to the above five problem categories, Dennis A. Perry distinguishes the categories of quality, legality and employee commitment, and notes that during his research, some environmental problems were more closely related to technical problems than safety [9].…”

“…Estimations might be used instead of calculations, for instance when data are scarce or when future events are uncertain. Such estimations can be based on knowledge and experience of experts or on similarities with previous projects (Więcek et al, 2019). The ability to make good estimations and assumptions increases with experience, but even for experienced investigators, new situations will pose problems.…”
