Could China's Long-term Low-carbon Energy Transformation Achieve the Double Dividend Effect for the Economy and Environment?

Abstract: Achieving low-carbon energy transformation is vital for coordinating economic growth and environmental improvement to satisfy the carbon emissions peak and carbon neutrality targets. Existing studies, however, have been dominated by the mere exploration of the low-carbon transformation pathway with little consideration of the importance of energy substitution in low-carbon transformation. Doing so is believably unable to gain the double dividend effect for the economy and environment. Accordingly, this paper d… Show more

“…At the same time, the rapid development of energy digitization and intelligence has placed the energy industry at the center of cyber attacks, with a single vulnerability potentially exposing the entire supply chain, and with high-risk applications and vulnerabilities being the main threats. At the international level, China's petroleum and gas consumption mainly relies on imports, with a dependence on crude petroleum exceeding 70% (He et al, 2022). With further optimization of the energy structure and deep economic transformation, the demand for petroleum and natural gas will still remain at a high level in…”

“…Under the condition of high-quality economic development, the coordinated development of regional economy, energy consumption and lowcarbon can be achieved(Song et al, 2018;Song et al, 2020;Shi et al, 2022). Low carbon digital technology innovation(Ty eld, 2018;Haarstad et al, 2022), energy e ciency improvement(Zhu & Lin, 2022;Ouyang et al, 2019)and energy structure transformation(He et al, 2022; are the key ways to achieve low-carbon development. To realize low-carbon transformation, we need to analyze the system structure…”
