“…Although there are many studies concerning TS, the pathogenesis of TS is still poorly understood. Infection, trauma, genetic tendency, immunological reaction and Helicobacter pylori have been suggested as possible causative factors for TS [13][14][15][16][17] Because of the similar pathological mechanism between TS and AS, the incidence of TS was investigated in patients with AS. Koç and Uneri [14] found a high incidence rate of TS in atherosclerotic patients.…”

“…Iriz et al ( 26 ) showed that there are similar risk factors, such as increased homocysteine levels, between coronary artery atherosclerosis and tympanosclerosis. Although tympanosclerosis and atherosclerosis are two separate pathologies, they have similar histological and pathophysiologic elements and the same genetic reason has been proposed for both ( 2 ).…”

“…Iriz et al ( 26 ) carried out a case-control study and found that 100% of the patients with tympanosclerosis were H. Pylori -positive while only 26.9% of the patients not suffering from tympanosclerosis were H. Pylori -positive (P < 0.01) ( 21 ). Results of our study, while confirming those of Iriz et al ( 26 ), were different. This difference could be due the method used in the identification of H. Pylori .…”

“…This disease could be the complication of chronic otitis media [23]. Iriz et al, have demonstrated that H. pylori could be one of the reasons of tympanosclerosis [24]. Although otitis media is more common in children, Yazdi et al, have found a relationship between chronic otitis media and gastroesophageal reflux in adults [25].…”
