Cranioplasty after Two Giant Intraosseous Angiolipomas of the Cranium: Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract: Angiolipomas are rare, benign tumors resulting from the proliferation of adipose tissue and blood vessels, most frequently encountered subcutaneously at the upper limbs and trunk level. Due to their rarity, few cases of intraosseous angiolipomas are presented in the literature. The paper reports a 50-year-old female case with intracranial hypertension syndrome, frontal and parietal headache, nausea, and vomiting symptoms increasing in intensity. A CT exam revealed two hypodense expansive intraosseous formation… Show more

“…Unlike the metallic biomaterials [125], the ceramic materials have the ability to biodegrade and release bioactive molecules at a controlled rate [113,126]. Natural polymers such as collagen, fibrin and gelatin have been used as drug delivery vehicles in bone tissue engineering.…”

“…The degradable polymer coating can be used in the theragnostic domain to deliver different drugs. Biodegradable polymers slowly degrade due to the chemical reactions that take place, classified into two main groups, oxidation and hydrolysis, which can occur either simultaneously or successively [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. Table 1 summarizes the most used synthetic polymers as coatings for Mg-based alloys, such as polylactic acid (PLA) [ 29 , 30 ], poly(Lactide-Co-Glycolic) acid (PLGA) [ 31 ], polycaprolactone (PCL) [ 32 , 33 ], and cellulose acetate [ 26 , 34 ].…”

“…Alves et al [ 14 ] considered that early-onset VAP occurs at a time comprising between 2 and 4 days post-intubation, and late onset develops at a time interval higher than 5 days post-intubation [ 15 ]. In the first case, the duration of hospitalization was estimated at a maximum of 27 days, and for late onset, this parameter was about 36 days [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. In addition, the incidence rate for early onset was between 11–16%, associated with a mortality rate of about 16–23%, while in the case of late onset, a higher incidence rate of about 84% was identified, and a mortality rate of 44% was reported [ 20 , 21 ].…”
