Creep of Slurry Squeeze-Cast ZA-27 Zinc Alloy with Different Solid Fractions at 140 °C

Abstract: This research work was aimed at studying creep of a slurry squeeze-cast ZA-27 zinc alloy. The Gas-Induced Semi-Solid (GISS) technique was used for preparing semi-solid metal slurry with two different solid fractions. The ZA-27 alloy slurry was squeeze cast to form plate-like specimens with dimension of 100×100×15 mm3. The tensile specimens were machined from the squeeze-cast plates and heat-treated before mechanical test. Tensile creep tests were performed at 140 °C, at stresses of 20, 40, 60 and 80 MPa, in an… Show more

“…Improvement of mechanical and tribological properties of ZA-27 alloy can also be achieved by reinforcement with various forms of micro and nano-sized particles such as carbides (SiC, TiC) 9,10 , oxides (Al 2 O 3, Zn 2 SiO 4, ZnO) 11,12,13 , and nanographene and graphite particles 14,15 . Another method to improve the alloy's performance, which is denoted by dimensional stability and creep resistance, is through the use of the rheo-casting technique 16,17 . This simple and flexible non-conventional casting method takes the advantage of the wide freezing range of ZA alloy to create a microstructure, which is consisting of degenerated dendrites immersed in a residual liquid and induced greater composition homogeneity 18,19 .…”

“…the matrix material. But in metal matrix composites, the path of mixing is distinct during when compared [2,3].The sole concern of the research is to incorporate the reinforced graphite particles with the Za alloy. It can be easily defined as the production methods involved which are on rising value for lower value density materials along with the increased.…”

“…It can be easily defined as the production methods involved which are on rising value for lower value density materials along with the increased. MMC's in addition to the particulate reinforcement might result by maximizing the strength in a minimal cost when comparing with the type of continuous reinforcements [2,3]. When comparing with the real world applications, when there is requirement of isotropic properties, the respective type of composites might result in continuous fibre reinforced composites as well as they expand the minimal heat expansion and also it can withstand high thermal conductivity [4].…”
