Critical-current measurements in epitaxial films ofYBa2Cu3

Abstract: We have grown epitaxial films of the YBa2Cu307 -,compound on SrTi03 substrates. The superconducting critical current in these films at 77 K is in excess of 10 A/cm and at 4.2 K in excess of 10 A/cm'. PACS numbers: 74.70.Ya, 74.60.Jg Over the last fifteen months the superconducting transition temperature has increased by a factor of 4 to approximately 100 K. This development was initiated by the remarkable observations of Bednorz and Muller, ' who showed that in La2, Ba (Sr,Ca)Cu409, with the K2NiF4 structur… Show more

“…The earliest work on the properties of grain boundaries in high-temperature superconductors is that of Chaudhari and Dimos, soon after the discovery of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ [66,67,5]. Their work involved the isolation of current tracks crossing a grain boundary in a film grown on a bi-crystal substrate.…”

“…The dielectric permittivity ǫ shows in the SC state a divergent dispersion ǫ ∝ −(1/ω) 2 which represents the dielectric response of the zero-frequency deltafunction in the conductivity spectrum, responsible for the infinite DC conductivity [14]. Both behaviors of σ and ǫ of the YBCO film clearly display the appearance of a [17,18]: the value of λ L is strongly enhanced and ω s p decreased, probably due to the effect of the film thickness, which will be discussed in a subsequent publication.…”

“…In order not to increase the footprint of the X-ray beam beyond the acceptance of the analyzer optics (typically ≈50 μm) this requires a very small, focused beam, nowadays available from third generation synchrotron radiation sources using state-of-the-art focusing optical components such as mirrors or lenses. 3 Last but not least because of the advancement of nanoscience and the increasing interest in interfaces, HAXPES has matured rapidly to an established technique. Following the proceedings of the first HAXPES conference [24], meanwhile several reviews have been published [25,26], including a short review addressing HAXPES investigations of TMO thin films and interfaces [27].…”

“…This community was further enlarged by surface scientists when it was realized that high temperature superconductors (HTSs), epitaxially grown on transition metal perovskites, represent a rich playground for fundamental and applied research [2]. It was realized early on that epitaxy allowed to tailor the properties of the HTSs such as their critical current density [3].…”
