Critical success factors of sustainable project management in construction: A fuzzy DEMATEL-ANP approach

Recently the competition between firms is transforming from “firm vs. firm” to “ecosystem vs. ecosystem”. To fulfil the personalized customer requirements for a high-quality product-service in the age of servitization and sustainability, it is difficult for an individual actor to realize it. The product-service system (PSS) is naturally an integration of product and service. The final product-service of PSS that depends on a tangible product and intangible service, calls for value co-creation of multi-stakeholders. However, most existing related works have investigated PSS from the perspective of a supply chain or network, PSS in the view of an ecosystem of multi-stakeholders lacks sufficient exploration, especially the topic on the relationship between product-service and stakeholders. To fill the gap, this paper proposed a framework for the PSS ecosystem with quality function deployment (QFD) and fuzzy analytic network process (fuzzy ANP) to determine the stakeholders by clarifying the relationship between the final integrated product-service and stakeholders. Firstly, the PSS ecosystem structure was presented, including the stakeholders. Secondly, a model with the three-stage fuzzy ANP-QFD approach to determine stakeholders was employed. Thirdly, the specific process of the three-stage approach was presented. An illustrative case study of the automobile aftermarket was presented to verify the proposed model and approach. Discussions and future directions concluded this paper.

Although district heating is an energy-effective solution for cold countries, the coal-fired district heating sector is still facing significant challenges as regards sustainable development, during its operational stage. In order to achieve better operational performance, public private partnerships (PPP) have been introduced in relation to managing clean coal district heating, as a value for money (VfM) solution. To date, however, studies of the application of clean coal in district heating operations are rare and the lack of an evaluation framework hinders the effectiveness test on this sustainable solution. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of PPP as a VfM solution to the operation of clean coal district heating, by developing an assessment framework on the basis of three dimensions of sustainability: economic, social and environmental, and discussing the proposal, by means of a case study. The assessment results show that the PPP operation offers good VfM performance but with room for improvement, including more user engagement. This research contributes to the literature on clean coal district heating and PPP by providing a comprehensive assessment framework for evaluating VfM performance of the concept. The application of the framework can help the authorities with a robust PPP assessment and thus, improve the sustainable performance of the clean coal heating operation.

As a pillar industry of the Chinese national economy, the construction sector needs to improve its level of management to embrace sustainable development. Sustainable construction project management (SCPM) performance evaluation can help to raise the level of management. However, the existing evaluation system that takes into account both the sustainable development and the dimension of traditional project management is meager. In order to address this problem, this study sets out an integrated sustainable performance evaluation method for SCPM, along with a comprehensive analysis of both traditional and future management directions. Through literature review and enterprise data analysis of the relevant factors of finance, schedule, quality, and safety, etc., indicators are filtered and classified. In order to determine the strength of each indicator, a questionnaire is administered to construction professionals within a large construction enterprise (group). From the result of the weight with an improved Group-G1 (iG1) method (finance 0.206, schedule 0.206, quality 0.185, safety 0.134, informatization 0.134, and greenization 0.134), it indicates that finance, schedule and quality management are still top three important dimensions in SCPM. However, amazingly, the greenization and informatization management is as significant as safety management. Finally, based on set pair analysis, the Guangzhou Metro Line 7 project is used as a verifying case, affirming the validity of the sustainable performance evaluation model. The above SCPM evaluation model can not only provide a guideline for construction companies' sustainable management in China, but also serve as reference cases for other countries/regions to carry out relevant research work.Sustainability 2019, 11, 5731 2 of 17 low profit, large resource consumption, serious environmental pollution, and poor ability to utilize information technology within the construction industry have raised concerns [4]. According to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, the construction industry accounts for about 40% of total national energy consumption, and produces between 45% and 65% of the disposed waste in landfills [6]. At the same time, the informatization level of the construction industry is only higher than that of agriculture, ranking the second to last among all industries [7].
