Crop domestication in the upper Madeira River basin

Abstract: Most native Amazonian crops were domesticated in the periphery of the basin. The upper Madeira River basin is an important part of this periphery where several important crops were domesticated and others are suspected to have been domesticated or arrived early. “…Sua identificação no passado amazônico deveria se relacionar mais a técnicas de cultivo do que com a presença-ausência das plantas cultivadas, ou mesmo com os demais objetos da cultura material que não estejam diretamente envolvidos no cultivo (como a cerâmica).A arqueobotânica é uma ferramenta com diversos potenciais, para além de elencar uma lista de plantas, tais quais auxiliar nos estudos acerca de mudanças paleoambientais de longa duração e fornecer subsídios para a reconstrução da dieta, formas de cultivo, processamento, consumo / uso e descarte de materiais vegetais.
