Among the examples one can note solid solutions of oxide scintillators, such as Lu 2x Y 2À2x SiO 5 :Ce (LYSO) [1], Lu 2x Gd 2À2x SiO 5 :Ce (LGSO) [2], Lu x Y 1Àx AlO 3 :Ce (LuYAP) [3], Lu x Gd y Y 1ÀxÀy AlO 3 :Tm [4] (Lu x Gd 1Àx ) 3 (Al y Ga 1Ày ) 5 O 12 :Ce (LuGAGG) [5], based on isovalent substitution of host cations. In LYSO and LGSO crystals the Lu 3+ substitution by Y 3+ , or Gd 3+ improves energy resolution and suppresses afterglow [1,2].…”
