Crystal structure of 2,2′-dinitro-2,2′-[(1,4-butylene)dioxybis( nitrilomethylidyne)]dibenzene, C18H18N4O6

Abstract

C 18 H 18 N 4 O 6 ,monoclinic, P12 1 /c1(no. 14), a =4.668(4) Å, b =15.11(1) Å, c =12. Source of materialTo an ethanol solution (15 ml) of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde (348.6 mg, 2.31 mmol) was added an ethanol solution (5 ml) of 1,4-bis-(aminooxy)butane (155.9 mg, 1.15 mmol). After the solution had been stirred at 328 Kfor 5h,the mixture was filtered, washed successively with ethanol and ethanol/hexane (1:4, v/v), respectively. The isolated compound was dried under reduced pressure and purified with recrystallization from ethanol to yield 202.6 mg of yellow crystalline solid (yield 45.6 %; m.p. 361.5 -363.5 K). Elemental analysis -found: C, 55.85 %; H, 4.56 %; N, 14.76 %; calculated for C 18H18N4O6:C ,55.96 %; H, 4.70 %; N, 14.50 %. Prism-like yellow single crystals of the title compound suitable for X-ray diffraction measurement were obtained by slow evaporation of an ethanol solution at room temperature.
