Crystallization kinetics of glassy Se90In10-xAgx alloys: Observation of Mayer-Neldel rule

Abstract: Glassy alloys of Se 90 In 10-x Ag x were prepared using melt quenching technique. Non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) studies were done on Se 90 In 10-x Ag x (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 at.%) glassy alloys at four different heating rates (β = 5, 10, 15, 20°C/min). Well defined endothermic and exothermic peaks were obtained at glass transition (T g) and crystallization temperature (T c), respectively. Augis and Bennett's method was used to obtain the composition dependent crystallization activation e… Show more

“…Chalcogenide glasses find their application in fabrication of solid state devices which are helpful both in scientific and technological fields [1]. These semiconductors express very specific characteristics such as high transmittance in IR region, high non-linear refractive index, low phonon energy, mouldability, etc, that are advantageous to optical and opto-mechanical designers [2].…”

“…However, everyone agrees that there is an explanation, namely, the exponential distribution of activation barriers [15,[70][71][72][73]. In this way, in spite of the fact that both the MNR and concept of the isokinetic relationship are widely used, the microscopic origin of the MNR and, therefore, the physical meaning of the EMN are still a topic of discussion in the literature [74][75][76]. Many authors look forward to further developments in this interesting and important area [77].…”
