Crystallographic orientation relationship of an Al2O3/Y3Al5O12 eutectic fiber produced by the micro-pulling down (μ-PD) method.

Abstract: Directionally solidified eulectic fiber samples in the A1 2 0 ? /YIA1 5 0|2 (corundum/YAG) system were produced by using the micro-pulling down (μ-PD) method. The "Chinese script" microstructure was produced in present fiber samples and the corresponding crystallographic orientation relationship [0 0 l] corun( i um //[112 ]YACI perpendicular to the solidification direction was clarified by the ordinary single crystal X-ray diffraction. This crystallographic orientation was suggested to be an essential one feat… Show more

“…[14][15][16][17] Nevertheless, the careful analysis of EBSP allowed to reproduce the nominal crystallographic orientation relationship 0 0 1 corundum// 1 1 2 garnet perpendicular to the solidification direction, similarly to the cases of the directionally solidified Al 2 O 3 /Y 3 Al 5 O 12 eutectic samples without any substitution. 12,24,25 It may be noted that the microstructures in the smaller eutectic rods are elongated in the solidification direction by indicating good agreements with the previous reports. 6,12,13 …”
