[Cu(H2O)(C5H14N2)2][VO3]2 – A Metavanadate Containing Right‐ and Left‐Handed Helical Chains

Abstract: The new metavanadate [Cu(H 2 O)(C 5 H 14 N 2 ) 2 ][VO 3 ] 2 (C 5 H 14 N 2 is 2,2-dimethylpropyldiamine) (1) was synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The compound crystallizes in the rhombohedral space group R3m with a ϭ 28.6984 (15), c ϭ 6.4309 (3), V ϭ 4586.9(4) Å 3 , Z ϭ 9. The main structural motifs are helical metavanadate {VO 3 } n nϪ chains made by corner-sharing [VO 4 ] 3Ϫ tetrahedra and [Cu(H 2 O)(C 5 H 14 N 2 ) 2 ] 2ϩ complexes with the Cu 2ϩ ion being in a distorted square-pyramidal coordinatio… Show more

“…and chemically modified POVs. we have recently isolated several chemically modified polyoxovanadates, namely (C 6 H 17 N 3 )[V 16 Sb 4 O 42 ] · 2H 2 O, (NH 4 ) 4 [V 14 Sb 8 O 42 ] · 2H 2 O,41 (trenH 3 ) 2 [V 15 Sb 6 O 42 ] · n H 2 O42 (tren = tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine), [V 16 Sb 4 O 42 (H 2 O){VO(C 6 H 14 N 3 ) 2 } 4 ] · 10H 2 O · C 6 H 14 N 2 43 (C 6 H 14 N 2 = (±)‐trans‐1,2‐diaminocyclohexane), [V 14 Sb 8 (C 6 H 15 N 3 ) 4 O 42 (H 2 O)] · 4H 2 O,(C 6 H 17 N 3 ) 2 [V 15 Sb 6 (C 6 H 15 N 3 ) 2 O 42 (H 2 O)] · 2.5H 2 O,44 (aepH 3 ) 4 [V 14 Ge 8 O 50 ] · 13H 2 O (aep = 1‐(2‐amino‐ethyl)‐piperazine) and (H 2 pip) 4 (Hpip) 4 [V 14 Ge 8 O 50 (H 2 O)] (pip = piperazine),45 (dienH 3 ) 4 [V 14 Ge 8 O 42 S 8 ] · 5H 2 O (dien = diethylenetriamine), (aepH 3 ) 4 [V 14 Ge 8 O 42 S 8 ],46 as well as some vanadates with copper amino complexes bound to the central structural vanadate motifs 47,48. “…A search of the Cambridge Structural Database revealed very few similar structures (those with channels surrounded by six pairs of methyl groups). Examples include L-leucyl-L-serine (JAZBOC) [15] and aqua(bis-2,2-dimethylpropyldiamine)copper metavanadate (POYNAT) [16] which have channels with diameters of 5.2 and 7.3 Å respectively, and an adduct of benzoxazolechlorotetrahydrobenzoxanthene and toluic acid (WAGREC) [17]. The last possesses larger cavities with a diameter of 5.5 Å and surrounded by chlorine atoms, and smaller cavities with a diameter of 5 Å and surrounded by methyl groups.…”

“…These modified hybrid materials have attracted much interest due to the interesting structural features like three‐dimensional network structures,24 in which the ligands act as bridges between the cluster anions. There are also reports about materials consisting of metal oxo‐clusters or one‐dimensional chains containing transition metal coordination complexes 25. These structural features together with the unique and interesting properties of POVs.…”
