Current Pharmaceutical Aspects of Synthetic Quinoline Derivatives

Abstract: Abstract:: Quinoline derivatives are considered as broad spectrum pharmacological compounds that exhibit wide range of biological activities. Integration of quinoline moiety can improve its physical and chemical properties and also pharmacological behavior. Due to its wide range of pharmaceutical applications it is very popular compound to design new drugs for treatment of multiple diseases like cancer, dengue fever, malaria, tuberculosis, fungal infections, AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes . “…Quinoline core ( Figure 1 ), a bicyclic structure in which a pyridinic ring is fused to a benzene moiety, occurs in several natural compounds ( Cinchona alkaloids) and in drugs, with a broad range of biological activities including antimicrobial, antifungal, antitumor, antiviral, anticholesterol and anti-Alzheimer’s disease 15 , 16 . The 8-hydroxy quinoline derivatives clioquinol and PBT2 ( Figure 1 ), promising multifunctional agents, have been investigated for their neuroprotective effect in AD and have entered clinical trials for AD 17 .…”

“…Quinolines are one of the most important classes of heterocyclic alkaloids, which have been widely reported to possess a broad range of pharmaceutical activities [ 4 , 5 ]. Quinoline-bearing structures exist in many biologically active drugs, including Quinine, Quinodine, Mefloquine, and Chloroquine [ 6 , 7 , 8 ].…”

“…Therefore, due to its wide range of pharmaceutical applications, it is urgent to design new compounds containing quinoline moiety to act as potential drugs for the treatment of many diseases like cancer, dengue fever, malaria, tuberculosis, fungal infections, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes. [24] To continue our investigations to develop novel Schiff base derivatives that can act as potential drugs to cure various diseases, [1][2][3]5] here we report the synthesis of a new Schiff base with a quinoline part, 1-phenyl-2-((quinolin-2-ylmethylene)amino)ethanol (HL; Scheme 1) along with its coordination derivatives of some transition metal ions. The study included the synthesis and analytical and spectroscopic characterization of the Schiff base ligand and its complexes.…”
