Current Status of Schistosomiasis and Its Snail Hosts in Aswan Governorate, Egypt

Abstract: Human schistosomiasis is one of the most important neglected tropical diseases. Ongoing control measures have markedly decreased the incidence of the disease. This study determined the prevalence of Schistosoma hematobium and S. mansoni infection among school children and adults and the snail intermediate hosts in Aswan Governorate.A cross-sectional study was carried out in four villages, El-Molcata, Karor, El-Mocla and Elkhatara. Parasitological examination of 1200 inhabitant examined using direct stained sme… Show more

“…Furthermore, the presence of other trematodes cercariae can make diagnosis difficult (Caldeira et al, 2017). There is prevalence of S. haematobium among school children and adults with the risk factors being gender and contact with water canal although surveys employing shedding snails failed to detect patently infected B. truncatus and the risk of the parasite transmission in the Aswan governorate (Dyab et al, 2021). Therefore, the molecular techniques and measurements of immune factors have been studied in the present work to detect the earlier stages of the parasite in infected snails.…”
