Current Trends on Role of Biological Treatment in Integrated Treatment Technologies of Textile Wastewater

Abstract: Wastewater discharge is a matter of concern as it is the primary source of water pollution. Consequently, wastewater treatment plays a key role in reducing the negative impact that wastewater discharge produce into the environment. Particularly, the effluents produced by textile industry are composed of high concentration of hazardous compounds such as dyes, as well as having high levels of chemical and biological oxygen demand, suspended solids, variable pH, and high concentration of salt. Main efforts have b… Show more

“…Biotreatment is considered the most environmentally and economically acceptable approach to the remediation of polluted environments [12]. Due to their rapid reproduction rate and high metabolic potential, bacteria and fungi are able to adapt to new substrates and are therefore the most studied organisms for the biodegradation of conventional plastic polymers [13].…”

“…However, RBB is an anthracene derivative that describes an important group of hazardous pollutants. The chemical and physical approaches for treating wastewater at textile manufacturing sites have drawbacks, such as disposal issues, high cost, and low effectiveness [ 6 , 20 ].…”

“…[5][6][7] The elimination of such dyes from aqueous solutions is of vital importance for environmental protection and human health. To date, quite a few technologies have been used for the elimination of organic dyes in wastewater, such as adsorption, [8][9][10] membrane filtration, 11 chemical oxidation, photocatalytic oxidation decomposition or reduction, 12 biological technologies, [13][14][15] etc. Among them, adsorption is usually considered to be a simple, efficient, and non-destructive method, 16,17 while porous adsorbents are considered to be the most ideal material for removing organic dyes from aqueous solutions due to their large adsorption capacity and high adsorption efficiency.…”
