Cutaneous manifestations of Hodgkin's disease

Abstract: Although pruritus is the most commonly recognized presenting symptom of Hodgkin's lymphoma, new onset of eczema should also be considered as a possible warning sign deserving further investigation. Patients with adult-onset pruritus or eczema should be evaluated for possible HD with full lymph-node exam, CBC with differential, and chest X-ray. Erythema nodosum and mycosis fungoides should also be considered as cutaneous manifestations of HD.

“…38,39 Previous reports of an association between HL and smoking have usually been strongest in EBV-positive HL [40][41][42][43] ; we did not have enough information on EBV tumor status to evaluate this relationship. Although adult-onset eczema is a common clinical manifestation of HL, 44 the majority of twins with a history of eczema reported an onset in early childhood, and the remainder at least 5 years before diagnosis, so reverse causality is not a likely explanation of the association.…”

“…12 In a study by Rubenstein and Duvic (MD Anderson), 47 patients out of 1049 developed cutaneous manifestations. 4 However, only three patients out of 47 had cutaneous Hodgkin lymphoma. The most common non-specific cutaneous manifestation was eczema (18 out of 47 cases), followed by pruritus /prurigo nodularis (17 out of 47 cases), mycosis fungoides (11 out of 47 cases) and erythema nodosum (3 out of 47 cases).…”
