Cyclic block filtered multitone modulation

Abstract: A filter bank modulation transceiver is presented. The idea is to obtain good sub-channel frequency confinement as it is done by the family of exponentially modulated filter banks that is typically referred to as filtered multitone (FMT) modulation. However, differently from conventional FMT, the linear convolutions are replaced with circular convolutions. Since transmission occurs in blocks, the scheme is referred to as cyclic block FMT (CB-FMT). This paper focuses on the principles, design, and implementatio… Show more

“…For high speeds (Doppler frequency greater than 200 Hz), CB-FMT is superior due to the higher robustness offered by the well frequency confined sub-channels. CB-FMT offers also better PAPR characteristics than OFDM [5].…”

“…The latest signal processing developments that enable the combination of MIMO and FBMC/OQAM are the subject of this overview paper. Many other multicarrier modulation schemes are currently under investigation: universal filtered-multicarrier (UFMC) [28], [29], generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) [30]- [33], filtered multitone (FMT) [34], [35] and cyclic block filtered multitone (CB-FMT) modulation [36]. UFMC, GFDM and CB-FMT also possess the key ingredients to become the new wide band access scheme.…”

“…It comprises: a DFT of M = LN points equal to the prototype pulse length, a sub-channel equalizer, matching the output signals with the filter coefficients H(i) = G * (i) where G(i) denotes the DFT of the prototype pulse, a periodic repetition, and a final IDFT of L points. The sub-channel equalizer can be designed according to the MMSE criterion [42]. Now, in Fig.…”
