“…Considering that the first dengue vaccine approved in the country (Dengvaxia ® ) has a different efficacy for each serotype [28], it could be important to evaluate the dengue seroprevalence in the country. In this context, it is important to develop a National Seroprevalence Study for dengue to better inform future policy decision making if this does not already exist.…”

“…Currently, there is no specific antiviral treatment to manage the dengue virus [23][24][25][26]. At the end of 2015, the Brazilian Government approved the first dengue vaccine (CYD-TDV; Dengvaxia ® ) to prevent DENV infection with a reported global efficacy of 60%, recommended for individuals between 9 and 45 years old [27,28].…”

“…The recent introduction of dengue vaccines make understanding severe dengue more important as these vaccines may promote severe disease in certain subpopulations 50 . An improved understanding of dengue and its dynamic circulation are required for successful public health policies and vaccination programs.…”

“…Subsequently, factors such as increased international freight and travel, urbanization, and vector control strategies and tools poorly suited to urban environments or hampered by insecticide resistance [ 119 ] have resulted in the global explosion of dengue. Yellow fever outbreaks can be prevented or controlled by mass vaccine distribution [ 120 ], but no vaccines are available for chikungunya and Zika, and the licensed dengue vaccine offers incomplete and serotype-specific protection [ 121 ]. Consequently, outbreak prevention and response remain reliant on vector control.…”
