Cystic Lymphangioma of the Colon: Endoscopic Removal beyond the Frontiers of Size

Abstract: Cystic lymphangiomas are benign colonic neoplasms arising from the submucosa. Traditionally, endoscopic resection has been described for smaller lesions, while surgery is reserved for larger symptomatic lesions. We present a case of a 69-year-old asymptomatic individual noted to have a cystic lymphangioma of the colon measuring 5 cm, which was successfully removed with endoloop endoscopic resection without any complications.

“…To our knowledge, this is the first case described with two lesions. Previously reported cases of colonic hemangiolymphangiomas were diagnosed during middle age, as in our patient, with both genders being equally affected (2). The clinical presentation is variable, depending on the size and consequent mass effect or complications.…”

“…Hemangiolymphangioma is a very rare benign vascular tumor with an incidence of 1.2-2.8/1,000 newborns (1). It occurs predominantly in young patients and less than 1% affect the gastrointestinal tract (1,2). The lack of effective noninvasive diagnostic techniques has led to surgical or endoscopic resection.…”

“…Cystic lymphangioma can occur in any part of the body, however, that frequently occurs in the head and neck, and it may rarely observe in the pelvic. [10] There was no pathological evidence of cystic lymphangioma in the case that we reported. The right part of the pelvic cavity is still an untypical site of cystic lymph node metastasis, cystic lymphangioma, and cystic lymphatic metastasis combined with cystic lymphangioma.…”
