Cytogenetic studies on B‐cell leukemias of akr origin

Abstract: The karyotype of B-cell leukemias of AKR origin was studied by G-banding. In contrast to previous observations indicating trisomy of chromosome 15 in spontaneous and chemically-induced B-cell leukemias, 11 out of 15 tumors analyzed had normal diploid karyotypes. Four tumors with the modal number 39-41 had different chromosome markers specific for each tumor. The possible correlation between non-random chromosomal changes and the target cell involved in the initial transformation in AKR leukemogenesis is discus… Show more

“…It is interesting to compare our findings in MuLV-induced B-cell lymphomas with those of a cytogenetic study (Trakhtenbrot et al, 1987) of B-cell lymphomas arising in thymectomized AKR mice. Strikingly, those AKR B-cell tumors which had multiple cytogenetic abnormalities in that study were the ones which had a relatively long latency.…”

“…Various other numerical aberrations have also been documented (Dofuku et al, 1975;Chang et al, 1977;Wiener et al, 1978aWiener et al, ,b, 1981Carbonell et a!., 1982Carbonell et a!., , 1987McMorrow et al, 1988). The few B-cell lymphomas studied thus far were hyperdiploid, comprising various types of monosomies, trisomies (predominantly trisomy 15) and marker chromosomes, but normal karyotypes have also been observed (Fialkow et al, 1980;Wiener et af., 1981;Trakhtenbrot et al, 1987).…”
