Dasein’ı Filmozofik Düşünmek: Bir Film-Zihin Olarak ‘Hayat Ağacı’

Abstract

Human have sought ways to give meaning to his existence ever since he existed in the world. Accordingly, the meaning of existence in philosophy, art and culture has been tried to be explained. However, in time, existence has been hidden, forgotten, and invisible. Heidegger defined this situation as forgetting existence. According to Balázs, it started to change with the invention of the camera and the films made the existence visible again. According to Kracauer, the cinema is the basic device to show the existence in "becoming" with the functions of "recording" and "disclosing". With the way of thinking that Frampton describes as Filmosophy, the film, which reveals the existence of men with its technical possibilities, can place the existence in the center of the thought. Filmosophy aims to develop new film rhetoric, by exceeding approaches focusing solely on technique or dramatic structure. Based on all these arguments, the main problem of the study is that cinema makes the forgotten and invisible Dasein visible with its functions of "recording" and "disclosing"; cinema also places it in the center of thought with its dramatic structure and cinematographic elements. The study aims to reveal how the film-mind thinks of Dasein. Accordingly, the movie "Tree of Life" has been studied through the filmosophy. In the study, it was concluded that the film accomplished a film-thinking based on existential problems such as "being, Dasein, death, life, universe, and God".
