Data Description Technique-Based Islanding Classification for Single-Phase Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System

Abstract: This paper develops an islanding classification mechanism to overcome the problems of non-detection zones in conventional islanding detection mechanisms. This process is achieved by adapting the support vector-based data description technique with Gaussian radial basis function kernels for islanding and non-islanding events in single phase grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. To overcome the non-detection zone, excess and deficit power imbalance conditions are considered for different loading conditions. … Show more

“…On the other hand, hybrid IDMs based on signal processing technique [26,30] and communication-based remote IDMs [33,34,58] are accurate, efficient, fast, and reliable in detecting islands but they have high computational burden and cost concerns. Remote IDMs dominates the IDMs with its high speed of detection in the order of 20 ms with very small or almost zero NDZ.…”

“…In the high PWM signal, MOSFET switches cause the malfunction because of short conduction time [10,11]. Compared with a classical buck, boost, and buck-boost circuits, transformer-based converters can achieve higher conversion ratios with lower losses [12,13]. The same feature applies to converters with coupled inductors [14].…”

“…This operation also involves automatic reconnecting, or intervention of the operator to reclose the DG connection with the grid after the abnormality is cleared. All these operations require the system to be equipped with an accurate islanding detection mechanism [27][28][29] and a robust and smooth seamless transition control infrastructure. Based on these control models, the islanding detection, control, and grid resynchronization process are achieved through various modifications and by developing the intelligent control approaches in Section 4.…”
