Data logistics as a means of integration in healthcare applications

Abstract: Information integration is still a crucial issue in healthcare applications. Most clinical applications are determined by a huge variety of heterogeneous and independent work places, most of them equipped with specialized clinical hardware. Due to this it is almost impossible -at least not feasible -to run a common database system storing all relevant data of a clinical application. Nevertheless these clinical applications have to share their data. Our solution to this integration problem is to facilitate so c… Show more

“…Interoperability concerns also rise as one of the most urgent priorities of healthcare information systems [11,12] . Connecting for health, as a single IT provider for the NHS defined the interoperability issue 'it is impossible for different healthcare information systems to smoothly, seamlessly, privately communicate information when it is needed to where it is needed' [1] .…”

“…As described in several publications [5] [9] we pursue a special approach to workflow (process) management in medical and scientific applications which is called Data Logistics (DaLo). This approach supports a very flexible execution of workflows as compared to the traditional way of prescribed workflow execution in conventional workflow management systems [8].…”

“…We consider a process-based information system to be the ideal candidate for such incorporation. We call this approach Data Logistics (DaLo, [9]) and summarize it in Section 2. Section 3 presents the framework responsible for the data management issues within the DaLo, named DaltOn, and emphasizes all execution aspects on a concrete micrometeorology example.…”
