Data mining and stock assessment of fisheries resources in Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia

Abstract: The potential of catch per unit effort (CPUE) analysis based on statistics of local fisheries in Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia was evaluated. The fishery statistics system was improved through a cooperative project conducted by the Department of Fisheries and the Mekong River Commission between 1994 and 2000, especially in the seven provinces adjacent to Tonle Sap Lake. However, the fisheries statistics were not effectively utilized for sustainable stock management. After the cooperative project, fish catch data … Show more

“…The high EE values of fish groups illustrated the pressure on the resources suffered from fishing activities as well as predation pressure for the forage fish groups (i.e., mud carp, small herbivores and small fish). This result was consistent with many previous studies on the fishery production of the lake that have drawn their concerns on over exploitation of fisheries resources in the lake (Enomoto et al, 2011). In addition, Enomoto et al (2011) illustrated the fluctuation of CPUE (catch per unit effort) of snakehead (Channa sp.)…”
