Data relating to change in locus of control orientation of parents overtime (from pre-birth to 20 years later), participating in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC)

Abstract: Locus of control (LOC) measures an individual׳s expectancy regarding their ability to affect what happens to them based on their behavior. Those with an internal LOC (ILOC) believe their own behavior influences what happens to them. Those with an external LOC (ELOC) perceive that what happens to them is beyond their control (i.e. determined by luck, fate, chance or powerful others) [1]. A vast amount of research (mainly cross-sectional) suggests that an ELOC is associated with many adverse personal, social, ac… Show more

“…Further, the negative association observed between external LoC and role functioning suggests a possible link with task-directed behaviour in those with PE. External LoC is associated with a myriad of adverse personal, social, academic and health outcomes (Iles-Caven et al, 2018). Decreased functioning has been consistently shown in young people with PE (Healy et al, 2018) and our findings serve to provide insight into the mechanisms behind such reductions in functioning.…”

“…Several research results show that individual factors play an important role in improving individual performance, especially in accounting (Iles-Caven, Golding, Ellis, Gregory, & Nowicki, 2018;Lestari, Tarjo, & Prasetyono, 2017;Merawati & Mahaputra, 2017). These individual factors are competence.…”
