Dataset on the toxic effects of aflatoxin and ochratoxin a on the human gastric smooth muscle cells

Abstract: This dataset determined the effects of aflatoxins (B 1 , B 2 , G 1 and G 2 ) and Ochratoxin A extracted from ginger collected purposively from different retails in Mafikeng, North West province of South Africa, on the Human Gastric Smooth Muscle Cells. Hundred samples of ginger were collected and utilized for this purpose and the above mentioned toxins were extracted from the ginger, screened for on ELISA, quantified by… Show more

“…In southern Africa, maize and its derivatives are a major source of food (Du Plessis, 2003), constituting a significant part of infants' diets. The consumption of contaminated maize and its end products, therefore, affects the health of not only adults but also infants, leading to various complications (Omotayo et al, 2016;Gai et al, 2018;Omotayo et al, 2019b) and in severe cases, death.…”

“…With acute or chronic intoxication, teratogenic, mutagenic, carcinogenic, immunotoxic, or hepatotoxic effects of aflatoxins were well documented and discussed, especially for dairy cattle and poultry (Mckean et al, 2006;Klingelhofer et al, 2018;Sirma et al, 2018). Recently, toxic effects of aflatoxins on human astrocytes and human gastric smooth muscle cells were investigated (Omotayo et al, 2019;Park et al, 2019 a).…”
