Background: The trend of juvenile delinquency, especially Dating Violence (DV) is still very high. According to the Annual Records (Catahu), there were 2,073 cases in 2018. The Special Region of Yogyakarta ranked sixth as region with the highest DV cases in Indonesia, reaching 980 cases in 2018. In Bantul Regency, 80 cases were reported in 2018. Dating violence can have negative impact on the physical and psychological well-being of adolescents. Physical violence can lead to bruises and fractures while psychological violence affects the victims in the form of depression, stress, anxiety and sleep disturbances. This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical and psychological violence in dating with sleep duration of adolescents. Method: This research used quantitative research method with a cross sectional approach. Data were analyzed using chi square. The sample consisted of 314 high school students (15-19 years old) who were recruited using purposive sampling technique. Only subjects who have dated or are currently dating were included in this study. Results: The results showed that there was a relationship between physical violence in dating and sleep duration (PR = 1,165; 95% CI = 1,050-1,293; p<0.05). However, there was no relationship between psychological violence in dating and sleep duration (PR = 1,068; 95% CI = 0,957-1,192; p>0.05). Conclusion: The results suggest that there is a relationship between physical violence in dating and sleep duration. Teenagers are advised to take advantage of the PIK-R program at school or visit counseling teachers that can help them solving their problems.

Although scientific research on adolescent romantic and sexual development has proliferated in recent years, currently, too little is known about how development in these areas can be understood across diverse populations (e.g., different socio-cultural groups within countries) and contexts (e.g., countries or different proximal social environments). The goal of the current virtual special issue in the Journal of Adolescence was to highlight relevant and timely empirical findings from studies utilizing innovative and diverse research methods in the areas of adolescent romantic and sexual development from around the globe, with an emphasis on data collected outside of the Western world. It combines an interesting set of nine empirical papers, which describe datasets from 5 countries (Canada, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United States). In this editorial, we provide an introduction to this special issue, and illustrate how these studies expand our understanding of adolescent romantic and sexual development by examining: 1) romantic and sexual relationship constructs that are relevant for understudied and diverse populations; 2) how culture-specific factors may shape adolescents' romantic and sexual relationships; 3) how romantic and sexual relationship constructs are linked to psychosocial adjustment outcomes in understudied cultural contexts; 4) the role of different proximal social environments (e.g., parents, siblings, peers) in romantic and sexual development in diverse populations.

Long-term Adverse Outcomes Associated With Teen Dating Violence: A Systematic Review

CONTEXT: Evidence suggests that teen dating violence (TDV) is associated with long-term adverse outcomes, but these associations have not been systematically assessed. OBJECTIVES: To conduct a systematic review of the longitudinal associations between TDV and negative outcomes, including mental and physical health, reoccurrence of violence in intimate relationships, and high-risk behaviors (substance use and sexual behaviors). DATA SOURCES: Peer-reviewed articles published in English were searched in PsycINFO/Eric/PsycArticles, PubMed, and Web of Science database from inception to November 2022. STUDY SELECTION: Prospective studies that assessed TDV during adolescence, had a follow-up of at least ≥1 year, and evaluated the associations of TDV with health, violence in romantic intimate relationships, or risk behaviors were included. DATA EXTRACTION: Study characteristics, baseline data, and follow-up outcomes were extracted from included studies. RESULTS: Thirty-eight studies involving 23 unique samples were analyzed. Findings showed that TDV in adolescence was associated with future teen dating and intimate partner violence in adulthood. Studies also indicated that TDV was longitudinally associated with increasing high-risk behaviors (i.e., marijuana and alcohol use) and poor mental health outcomes (particularly for victimization). There was unclear evidence on the longitudinal link between TDV and suicidal attempts. Significant associations between TDV and negative outcomes were reported more frequently among females compared with males. LIMITATIONS: Length of follow-up varied across studies. CONCLUSIONS: Dating violence in adolescence may represent a risk factor for a wide range of long-term outcomes. Female adolescents reporting TDV may be at higher risk of adverse outcomes compared with males.
